The Sunnyside neighborhood here in Flagstaff, AZ is where 10% of the Flagstaff population calls home. In 1999, this neighborhood accounted for approximately 30% of the city's crime. Since then it has undergone a positive transformation like no other. The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association (SNA) has worked and fought hard to improve the lives of the people in Sunnyside.
This project started during a meeting where the SNA asked us to do a logo for a radio station they want to launch for the community. Most of the residents do not have computers and some don't have tv's, but they all have radios. When we asked to see the current branding for the association, they virtually had none. We decided that instead of just creating a logo for the radio station, we needed to create a whole brand system from the top on down. This brand is built for flexibility. The system elements that remain constant are the frame (representing the borders of Sunnyside) and the Sun. The rest of the space within the logo mark can be used for virtually anything. Also of note, because of budgetary constraints the logos are designed to work very well in one color.
